Worlds 2019 – Format Summary

October 8, 2019

The 2019 League of Legends World Championship
is making its return to Europe, and we’re here to take a closer look at the tournament’s
format. 24 teams will compete in up to 3 stages of Worlds, starting with the Play-In Stage,
followed by the Group Stage and concluding with the Knockout Stage. The Play-In Stage
will take place in Berlin, Germany and consist of 12 teams: the number 1 seeds from Brazil,
Japan, Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Latin America, and
Turkey; the number 2 seed from Vietnam; and the number 3 seeds from North America, Europe,
the LMS and for the first time ever, Korea. These teams will be drawn from 3 pools
into 4 groups. They will then play a best-of-one double round robin within those groups, and
the top two teams from each group will be drawn into best-of-five knockout matches.
The 4 winners will advance to the Group Stage, where 12 new teams will be waiting. Those teams are: the number 1 and 2 seeds
from Korea, Europe, North America, and the LMS; all three representatives from China;
as well as the number one seed from Vietnam. The 16 teams will be split into four groups,
where they’ll play a best-of-one double round robin. The top 2 finishers from each group will
move on to the Knockout stage in Madrid, Spain, which will play host to the first 2 rounds
of a best-of-five, single-elimination bracket. Finally, the last 2 teams will meet in the
Finals in Paris, France, where one will raise the Summoner’s Cup and secure their place
as the 2019 League of Legends World Champion. Worlds begins October 2nd.

  1. The worlds now is unpredictable you do not know who will win ..but usually faker is not the number 1 mid laner coming for worlds but he will play like a number 1 😂

  2. Bruh the group stages r going to be lit. I kind of want the franchise teams to win and meet in the playoffs. Cinderella stories are so 2018.

  3. This year is like a redemption arc from manga/manhwa. KR being placed in play in for the first time in nearly a decade. How the mighty have fallen. Can’t wait to see what the world has to offer for DWG. Hopefully they’ll be entertaining. Curb stomping has lost its taste.

  4. Matches i hope to see
    UOL vs RYL
    GAM vs TL
    GAM vs J TEAM
    GAM vs G2
    GAM vs IG

    TL vs FNC
    GRF vs RNG
    CG vs SPY
    SKT vs IG

    C9 vs FNC

    TL vs G2

  5. G2's gameplay surprised at MSI and gave them the victory. But now teams are prepared. Still I am voting for SKT cause of Faker. So much negativity and still he's making the plays.

  6. This means that in group C either SKT T1, FNC or RNG will NOT even make it out of groups! This is absolutely insane considering all 3 teams could potentially win worlds

  7. So… they gotta win, then they gotta win who may or may not have won as much, aaaaand then finally they gotta win? Im confused

  8. Just let me innnn! Wtf with the ticket and the bots that buyed all the ticket … they are real fan here ! Let us come !! And not for fricky 4000 euro ! @lolesports

  9. LMS/Vietnam seems weak to be on the same seed grouping as LCS/LEC/Korea/China. I hope they prove me wrong.

  10. Only the top 1 area has 3 seeds in group stage? All others have 2? Where can we see it the region's rank with points or something?
    Please…

  11. I don't like bo1s… double round robin with at least a bo3 would be nice. If those are too many games, just simple round robin with bo3s
