Witch Hunt – Rush (1981) HD FLAC

Guilty. Guilty. Guilty! Then she must burn. The night is black Without a moon The air is thick and still The vigilantes gather on The lonely torch-lit hill Features distorted in the flickering light The faces are twisted and grotesque Silent and stern in the sweltering night The mob moves like demons possessed Quiet in conscience, calm in their right Confident their ways are best oh oh oh Ohhhhh The righteous rise With burning eyes Of hatred and ill-will Madmen fed on fear and lies To beat, and burn, and kill They say there are strangers, who threaten us Our immigrants and infidels They say there is strangeness, too dangerous In our theaters and bookstore shelves That those who know what’s best for us – Must rise and save us from ourselves Quick to judge, Quick to anger Slow to understand Ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand.

  1. They say there are strangers who threaten us,
    Our immigrants and infidels.
They say there is strangeness to danger us
In our theatres and bookstore shelves,
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves.

    Quick to judge,
    Quick to anger,
    Slow to understand
    Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand.

  2. My very favorite Rush song of all time!!! I saw Rush first a the Riverside theater in Milwaukee, WI (where I'm from) back in the '70's! Rock on, Metal!!

  3. I read somewhere that Peart was rated as the worst lyricist of all time. Whoever wrote that is a dumbass! Thx for posting the lyrics, neilzep!!!

  4. awesome!!! and to find it right b4 Halloween. Thanks for putting me into the holiday spirit! I absolutely love this!!I'm going to check out your other videos..

  5. This is great art, perfect video/perfect band.I was born in Toronto and grew up to be one of Rush's biggest fans since i saw them play for free at Nathen Phillips Square near the new city hall in Toronto i was 14.My friends and i watched them play till the end even as they packed up their equipment.I fell in love with Rush, bought their first album when it came out, went to all their concerts. We seen them at Massey Hall for the A.T.W.A.S. Show.I think they are the greatest live band in the world.

  6. I love 'Rush", but this totaly misundstands "witches", lol. They make wiches out to be "bad", but most, if not all are good. Rescept what they do to help humanity.

  7. This song epitomizes the injustice being perpetrated by the government, against Tamerlan, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev! They have already been found 'guilty' in the 'court of public opinion',thanks to non-stop lies being told by national media outlets.I wonder why there has been no further court action in the case against Officer Kirk D.Merricks?I can prove their(Tsarnaev's) innocence, nooooo problem. All it takes is some research, and anyone will realize,it doesn't add up!

  8. As visually and psychologically potent as the first second I saw this work of art…"Those who know what's best for us…must rise and save us from ourselves…quick to judge…quick to anger…slow to understand. Ignorance and predjudice…and fear walk hand in hand…" Ain't it fucking true man, ain't it fuckin' true…

  9. After years of being a YouTube subscriber, I will say that after long considerations, this is the BEST video on the entire sight. Of course, that's my point of view, but when I unwrap my synestheistic and autistic limbic region, and add and take away all the psychological, emotional, and surrealistic ingredients that my oft-muddled psyche can conjure up, this is the song and video that I would take with me on my time machine to everywhere. Out-fucking-standing MetalMan…and I have shared your videos on Facebook in all of my musical groups and always include a note giving you full credit for your exquisitely magnificent talent. Thanks for making my life interesting again over these last few years…a fan forever, Mike from Canada

  10. It looks like it's the members of Rush who are dressed as the Quakers/Puritans (Geddy Lee's face is pretty distinctive, and I could've sworn he's one of them).  Can anyone confirm?

  11. I NEVER get tired of this video, the song, nor the lyrics…it screams at those who allow their minds and eyes to open unto the truth, that mankind's ways of meting out justice is based on evil ignorance and self-serving arrogance…

  12. Wow!  I've listened to this song and others you've put up and the sound is awesome!

What do you do or use to get the clarity?  Hobby or profession?

Do you take requests? lol  I'd LOVE to hear the "Show of Hands" live version of this song cleaned up to somewhere near this quality.   Alex's guitar at the end never fails to give me chills.

  13. That sounded great. What a bad ass song. Those who know whats best for us MUST RISE AND SAVE US FROM OURSELVES

  14. The best lyrics that the world can learn from are these …..stop quoting the intro – it only sets the stage for the climax

    Quick to judge
    Quick to anger
    Slow to understand
    Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand…

  15. Amazing. At first I wondered if this was the original video. I think I would have watched MTV more if this were the official vid…I wish I could do something even close to this for my songs' videos. Well, well done!

  16. awesome video.. The best song of moving pictures… misterios, dolor, miedo.. and rock and roll

  17. Such an incredible musical statement. So few videos on YouTube made professionally or by regular individuals are so well done, though occasionally I find one that rises above the chaff. This is a production that I would hope one day catches the eyes of the writers of the masterpiece for which it was created! Neil was a prodigy in his ability to create imagery so profound using firstly his words, but his percussion plays tremendous emphasis as punctuation and driving force to propel ideas from inanimate arrangements of letters. The same of course is true to the other two thirds of the ensemble, which contribute also with such precision and tact.
However, I am not writing to praise Rush or the men behind the art. Instead, I am offering serious praise to the one who interpreted the song using this incredible footage gathered painstakingly for nothing but sheer pleasure in the final piece. I wonder if the highly paid creators of any videos made for Rush could ever come remotely close to this level of work? Given a budget and sufficient time, I am confident they would still fall short, even today perhaps!
My primary reason to write however is not to just offer praise; instead it's to inquire as to whether you had considered using present day visuals to fully realize the reality of this songs profound expanse and breadth? The validity to this post 911 world clearly depicts witch hunts on the television every night and day, and hides its sheer absurdity so as to not be seen as the fraud it is by apparently nearly all among us! The GOP is 100% filled to the limit with such people. Further, when I make such statements to persons I encounter who are flag waving card carrying GOP thru and thru; they completely deny any shred of complicity or grasp of the truth of this statement. Absolutely no awareness that their dogma is exactly as the witch hunters of Salem.
And it must also be realized that Neil wrote these words when Rush themselves fell under fire from the rhetoric of the GOP LIE MACHINERY back in the late 70s and 80s by witch hunters disguised as wives of the political leaders of that era. Calling Rush and really every other rock band out as Satanists and the like! Tipper Gore was a name that always comes to mind, but Nancy Reagan and her efforts all worked splendidly to help create the machinery that both feeds and devours both ends of the illicit drug business and all it encompasses. Creating addicts to throw into prisons, while hiding behind the Just Say No slogans of the so-called drug war!
MetalGuruMessiah, your video is incredible, but incomplete! I hope you read these words and perhaps expand upon your idea and fully review for renewal, this vid and the songs words in their complete context, not simply the first dimension! Bravo!

  18. Great upload. Witch Hunt is a favorite of mine also. And I love that Bass line at 4:16…Never tire of it….Awesome.

  19. That nice little bass riff from Geddy at the end of the song has always been one of Rush's little sweat treats to me. Always wait for that part. Love it. Love them..
Contrary to everything you thought you knew, this song is not just a history lesson. There are many among us who are being subjugated by a new and so called improved digital vigilance or is it actually a Digital Witch Hunt.
Be wary of a miracle too good to be true my friends. The Wreckers from Rush….

  21. again, brother, you kicked ASS putting this video together, have now watched several of your videos, but this one is far and above my favorite…(I'm the guy who e-mailed ya about maybe putting something together for Heart's tune, 'Mistral Wind') but, strictly in my opinion, as they say, you're gonna have a hard time topping this masterpiece… also, the x-ray shot of a 'witch' with the long nails, hooked nose truly looks like my 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Haywood…again, kudos and a tip of the hat to ya… features distorted in the flickering light, the faces are twisted and grotesque, silent and stern in the sweltering night, the mob moves like demons possessed– with just a couple of lines, Neil Peart knows exactly how to convey the images he has in his head in such a way that is matched by but very few songwriters today.

  22. "it was 'Witch Hunt' that I thought the greatest track on the record."

"Witch Hunt" was one of my favorites too. No doubt. But my absolute favorite on this album is "Red Barchetta," with "Vital Signs" close behind – not to mention "YYZ." Though the Spirit of Radio was a great album, it has always seemed to me that it was starting with Moving Pictures where Rush got their sound production "dialed in."

  23. must admit this is the track i always forget exists on Moving Pictures, i name every other, but always miss this one even though i know the amount of tracks on the disc. probably because every other song on this album is regarded as among Rushs best songs whereas this one is just good, but a tad repetitive xD

  24. Trash…instead ov villifying this behavior…man's inhimanity…this represents a juvinile ,rude misrepresentation.Shame on you! May God sort you out…I have better.longer lasting horizons than the ones you prescribe.

  25. "Those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves" – THANKS RUSH

"Eu acredito que um dia, todos os seres do Planeta Terra, celebrarão a nossa própria salvação"!

  26. The video is fine – the angle that takes someone else's art edited for your personally perceived kudos, however, borders on tragic.

  27. Back for my 100th viewing…I love the drum work on this. No other drummer has the ability to work a drum set like Neil "The President" Peart. Lyrically potent as well…what a masterful work this is. And the incredible video from MetalGuru John is visually stunning.

  28. The night is black, without a moon
The air is thick and still
    The vigilantes gather on
    The lonely torchlit hill
Features distorted in the flickering light
    Faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
The mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
    Confident their ways are best
    Oh
    Oh
    The righteous rise
    With burning eyes
    Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill
They say there are strangers who threaten us
    Our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness to danger us
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves
    Quick to judge
    Quick to anger
    Slow to understand
    Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand

  29. Awesome, this song deserved a great video. I always feel it's about Salem witch trials but think the lyrics are relevant particularily now with all the populism and misinformation. Super job

  30. Masterpiece. And the live version on " A Show of hands" is even better with the guitar solo and the incredible bass sound during the whole track

  31. In my dreams the swedish band Ghost do a cover of this on their next EP. My favourite new band covering my favourite old band!
