Volusia County Sheriff’s Office cracks down on internet gaming cafes

October 8, 2019

GAMING FACILITIES. CLAIRE, WHY THE SUDDEN CRACKDOWN
?
CLAIRE TWO MAJOR POINTS, ONE
: THAT A NEW FLORIDA APPEALS
COURT RULING HAS REMOVED SOME OF
THE GREY AREAS THE CAFES HAVE OPERATED UNDER, AND, TWO, THAT
VIOLENT CRIME IS OCCURING AT THE
CAFES AND GOING UNREPORTED.>>WE BELIEVE IT’S A MATTER OF
TIME BEFORE A PATRON IS
MURDERED. CLAIRE NOT AT ALL WHAT WE WERE
: EXPECTING TO HEAR FROM SHERIFF
MIKE CHITWOOD ABOUT ORDERING
INTERNET CAFES TO CLOSE, BUT THE
SHERIFF SAYS IN RECENT WEEKS
THERE HAVE BEEN 4 VIOLENT ROBBERIES AT LOCAL GAMING
FACILITIES, AT HIDDEN TREASURE
ON NOVA ROAD, A SECURITY GUARDS
GUN WAS TAKEN DURING A ROBBERY
AND THE CRY WENT UNREPORTED
UNTIL A CEASE AND DESIST ORDER WAS SERVED. AT ANOTHER LOCATION, THE SHERIFF
SAYS AN ELDERLY WOMAN WAS
PISTOL-WHIPPED, THEN DISCOURAGED
FROM TELLING LAW ENFORCEMENT.>>THE DANGER OF SOMEONE BEING
KILLED IS A VERY HIGH
PROBABILITY RIGHT NOW, AND THESE
PEOPLE DON’T CARE. YOU KNOW, THEY DON’T CARE. CLAIRE INVESTIGATORS SAY THESE
: PEOPLE ARE OWNERS MAKING
BUNDLES OF CASH AT INTERNET
CAFES THAT WERE BANNED BY THE
STATE OF FLORIDA BACK IN 2013,
BUT MANY HAVE SINCE RE-OPENED BECAUSE THE STATE DECLINED TO
PROSECUTE SOME OWNERS DUE TO
MURKY LAWS GOVERNING THE CAFES,
.
THE SHERIFF SAYS A RECENT
APPEALS COURT RULING GIVES THEM CLEARER AUTHORITY THAT THE GAMES
ARE IN FACT GAMBLING AND AS IS,
ILLEGAL.>>WE’RE CONFIDENT A LONG WITH
THE STATE ATTORNEYS’ THAT THAT
LOOPHOLE HAS BEEN CLOSED AND WE
ARE GOING TO PURSUE THAT. CLAIRE WE WERE THERE IN JULY,
: 2017 WHEN INVESTIGATORS RAIDED
ONE OF THE CAFES. IT RE-OPENED BUT IS AMONG THOSE
NOW ORDERED TO CEASE AND DESIST. SOME OWNERS CLAIM THEY ARE
WORKING ON NEW SOFTWARE AND WILL
THE BACK. THE SHERIFF SAYS I DARE YOU.>>WE’LL ALL BE STANDING OUTSIDE
THEIR BUSINESS WHEN WE HIT THAT
PLACE WITH ARREST WARRANTS AND
SEARCH WARRANTS AND THEY ARE
GETTING HANDCUFFED. CLAIRE: THE SHERIFF SAYS IF DOWN
THE ROAD, THE STATE OF FLORIDA
DECIDES TO REGULATE AND APPROVE
INTERNET CAF

  1. Careful with the fake news of saying “internet gaming cafes are illegal”. They aren’t. It is the gambling that is illegal. You are confusing that with a bunch of nerds coming together for Local Area Network (LAN) parties and playing video games.
