Steam Remote Play Together

November 29, 2019

One of life’s greatest pastimes is playing party games on the couch and passing controllers among friends. But controllers only reach so far. Sometimes, it’s hard to get everyone in one place. And sometimes, people move away or you make new friends who don’t live near you. What do you do when your buddies are farther than you can swing a controller? You use Remote Play Together, a new multi-player Steam feature that lets you and your friends play party games over the internet, together. Now party gaming has never been easier. Simply fire up your game, then invite a Steam friend to join in the fun. It’s that easy. Once your pal accepts, boom, you’re gaming together. Your friend doesn’t even need to own the game or have it installed. Their controllers will act like they’re plugged directly into your computer, or you can share the keyboard and mouse. Now all your local multi-player games are playable online. Check out our growing list of compatible games on Steam and keep the party going with Remote Play Together.

  1. I think this type of feature is what most gaming companies decide to ignore on purpose. They know that people can earn more money just by forcing everyone to buy the game if they want to play it with their friends. Valve is a hero for this. If we can play local, we should be allowed to do it online so we can continue even if we're in another country.

  2. And this is why Valve will always be the superior platform. Meanwhile epic games store is still missing almost everything…

  3. Imagine a 2 players co op games where one player is Gordon Freeman, and the other is Alyx.

    Better(?):
Imagine a co-op puzzle games where one player using gravity gun, and the other using portal gun

  4. This is a good inclusion but currently does not play well at all if your friend(s) have low upload speed. For a good alternative that is more trash-internet friendly, I've been using a service called parsec and found it much more accommodating to the garbage wifi of my friend

  5. Using the Demoman as one of the player icons in this video is the most love Valve has given Team Fortress 2 in years.

  6. Aka, Parsec is now natively build into Steam. Not bad, not bad at all.

Poor Parsec though…of course, still good for some games. Letting friends try things out and such, or non-steam games of course, but still this will have it take quite the hit.

  7. is that difficult to recompensate developers who try to make a split screen mode in his games? lol bro, I used to play CoD with my friends in my house, it was awesome and fun, now that I have a PC Gamer there's not even a sign about local co op mode. No zombies together, no alien mode together, no nothing, it seems like if you have a pc you're attached to be a lonely wolf or something with no contact with the human race

  8. Happy for the ones that can use this. For me and my friends there is some noticeable input lag. We live really close to each other and have good internet. Parsec works fine so idk… 🙁

  9. spend 12,000 pesos on your controls. 2 controls, that the truth is a shame to have them saved, with the potential they have. I came up with a thousand ways to make them comfortable in various games. but games should already be optimized and tested for sale as well.

  10. I just had a huge brain fart watching this video.
"Huh…that's portal music in the background. Wonder why they have porta— ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh"

  11. It's something good and bad at the same time. Now we don't have to meet our real friends outside? But only through online? That's sad. It's not gonna happen right now but will be

  12. Really cool idea for us! But the thing is. I can now play Gmod and other amazing games without that my friends buy the game. So not a great idea for valve

  13. So, we can now play Cuphead and that one game from the creators of Untitled Goose Game online. …and other games that normally don't support online multiplayer.
I've seen worse sales pitches, so this doesn't look too bad.

Also, where do we get that party cover of Still Alive?

  14. I want to play Resident Evil 6 with my sister but when I send her invite, she says that it fails to connect. Any help on this?
