November 30, 2019

the PyeongChang 2018 *Paralympic Winter Games medals have been officially unveiled. They’re 9-and-a-quarter centimeters across…
and 9-point-4 milimeters thick… with the Korean alphabet, Hangeul, engraved on the
edges, representing the consonants of the words “PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter
Games.” Korean industrial designer Lee Suk-woo encorporated
traditional patterns like clouds, mountains, wind and wood — symbolizing the beautiful
natural environments of PyeongChang and Gangwon Province. The medal’s ribbons are made from the textile
used to make hanbok, Korea’s traditional attire,… and are embroidered with a snowflake pattern. A total of 133 sets of Paralympic Winter Games
medals will be awarded from March 9th through the 18th… across six sports and 80 events.
