Prince George, Canada set to host 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships

November 20, 2019

We’re very excited to announce that in February 2019 Prince George will host the first World Championships ever to be held in our city. The 2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships will bring over 250 elite international athletes and officials as well as hundreds of family members and spectators to our community. We look forward to showcasing our northern city and creating that warm hosting atmosphere that were known for here in Prince George. To be the host of the first World Para Nordic Skiing Championships in Canada is a little feather in the cap for Prince George and for all the work and effort that the community has put in to building the facilities up for the Canada Winter Games. This is the legacy that we were aiming for and it’s just a fantastic opportunity. The process leading up to this stage to get ready for the World Championships – a lot of that came with the preparations for the Canada Winter Games. We focus very heavily on on those assets and the club that would then allow us to be able to host larger and larger events. The big change was bringing the biathlon facility to the front of the facility here and then the competition trails were also developed so that they would meet the new standards. The Canada Winter Games in 2015 brought to Prince George not just a great spirit for the entire community but well beyond that brought to Prince George an opportunity for us to be on the world sporting stage, to give us an opportunity to showcase the world-class venues that we have here in Prince George and as a result of that we’re seeing the outcomes of of those facilities and what they mean to our community and these upcoming World Championships. I am truly excited about seeing this level of competition right here in our own backyard
