Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘instructed Ed Woodward to sell nine Man Utd players’

October 9, 2019

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knew that his Manchester United squad needed a big overhaul when he first arrived in January, and wanted the club to get rid of nine players   That’s according to BBC Sport , who claim that the Norwegian told Ed Woodward that he wanted a huge overhaul of the squad after replacing Jose Mourinho last December, initially on an interim basis  United are currently languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table, and are on a sorry run of 11 away matches without a victory since March’s 3-1 success at Paris Saint-Germain which effectively secured Solskjaer the full-time job  Although the players aren’t named in their entirety, the report adds that three of the nine players identified by Solskjaer left the club on permanent deals in the summer, while Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling joined Inter Milan and Roma respectively on loan  Marouane Fellaini moved to the Chinese Super League in February, while Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera left on free transfers when their contracts expired  United ended up splashing around £150million in the summer on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, and although all three have impressed at times, Solskjaer is facing mounting pressure at Old Trafford as his rebuilding job is doubted   “It will take however long it will have to take,” he said after Sunday’s defeat at Newcastle  “It’s a journey we’ve started on and the culture is getting there.  “I can’t give you any time but we’re getting there We’ve given ourselves a big, big uphill challenge to get among the top four – but it’s tight and we need to get a run together  “We’ve come together and discussed the direction we’re going. If you only work on sunny days you’ll never get to your destination  “We’ll have these days but we know where we want to get to.”
