Life before fame. Mithali Raj was born on 3 December 1982 in
Jodhpur. Her fathers name is Dorai Raj. He was an Airman in the Indian Air Force.
Her mothers name is Leela Raj. Mithali started to play cricket when she was only
10 years old. She attended Keyes high school for girls in
Secunderabad. She started cricket coaching in her school days. When Mithaliraj accompanied
her brother Mithun Raj to the St John’s Coaching Foundation in Hyderabad, she was spotted by
Sampath Kumar, who is credited with teaching her the basics of cricket. By the time she
was 12, Mithali raj had moved to the highly competitive league run by the Andhra Pradesh
Women’s Cricket Association. As a child, Mithalialso learnt classical dance for about eight years
and gave several stage performances. Later she had to choose between dance and cricket
and she chose cricket. Mithali raj was named among the probables
in the 1997 Women’s Cricket World Cup when she was just 14, but she couldn’t make it
to the final squad. Later she made her One Day International debut in 1999 against Ireland
and scored an unbeaten 114 runs. She also led Indian women cricket team to
their first World Cup final in 2005. In August 2006, she led the side to their first ever
Test and series victory in England and won the Asia Cup the same year. In addition to
her ability with the bat, Mithaliraj also rolls her arm over bowling leg-spinners which
provides a lot of variety to the Indian bowling attack.
She is often regarded as one of the greatest cricketing batters and she wasalso the first
captain ever (men or women) to lead India to an ICC ODI World Cup final twice. In 2017,
Mithali raj led the Indian team to the finals of the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup where
the team lost to England by nine runs. We are sure that she will continue her good run
