I HATE r/gaming

September 5, 2019

(siren) ‘r/gaming’ is one of the biggest subreddits… On reddit The social news aggregation site designed around users voting up or down on submitted content. *click* I have a weird relationship with Reddit. On one hand, it can be really useful for directly interacting with fans and finding handy tips and tricks and jokes and all sorts for video games I’m playing or, whatever. There’s also something so… …lame? About it? Like, if you did a word association game with the term ‘r/Gaming Redditor’, THIS is what would immediately flash into your head: [Tim Crist]: Pac-Man just gives me this feeling of giddiness like there’s all these tingles running up and down my nipples! (IHE Intro) I just can’t not associate Reddit with gamers. If we say Facebook is an old lady and Instagram is an obnoxious Californian hipster, then Reddit would be.. ..uh, kind of a dorky 13 to 24 year old… …little pushover bitch. Who on all of their social media would have their avatar be a custom-made South Park OC. So, that in mind let’s zone into r/gaming specifically. The community of 20 million plus “epic gamers”, who all greatly enjoy gamer related topics and other epically funny and awesome things. I find the ultimate way to quickly summarize r/gaming is with a picture I remember being unironically posted and shared by people on Facebook in around.. ..2010, when I was in secondary school, that read: I am a gamer. Not because I have no life, but because I choose to have many. A picture which has since been deservedly mocked and referenced as one of the most embarrassing creations in human history. [Tim Crist]: All these tingles running up and down my nipples! [IHE]: I don’t have anything against video games, or sharing your enjoyment of video games of course I don’t! In fact, I was playing my Xbox One through 60 the other day and was quite frankly having a wicked time! You have to admit that there’s something intrinsic to one who chooses to identify, as a gamer. To make being a gamer, their number one personality trait. And r/gaming is a wonderful breeding ground of examples of what I mean. A true r/gaming gamer is cut from the same cloth. They have to love The Witcher 3. And if they don’t think it’s their favorite game, they at least have to have a profound almost devout theological obsession with it. While at the same time, have a passionate deep-rooted hatred for EA, Call of Duty microtransactions, you know all the most obvious done to death, predictable, expected stuff you can think of. There’s a reason that in the last couple of years gamer culture has been memed so hard: because it is completely 100% worthy of it. Stereotypical gamers do themselves absolutely, no favors. [Cavemandcj]: It’s kinda coincidental how like in most games pigs are evil. [IHE]: Anything branded, or advertised, or shared towards the gaming crowd, has to be the most unsubtle, obnoxious, blatant, dated, noisy, overly designed garbage around! [Mighty No. 9 Trailer]: Do you like awesome things that are awesome? [Game of War Ad]: Do you wanna come and play? [IHE]: Quick sidenote: why do gamers love angles so much? I’m sure the mice, laptops, headsets and keyboards are nice to use, but why does it have to all look like it came from Cybertron? This general awkwardness in the medium translates into a typical gamer’s personality, and how they behave online. It’s just kind of a fact that many gamers… …enjoy cringy things, so naturally have the propensity.. ..to be incredibly cringy. I hate using the word ‘cringe’ all the time, but, it- it is what- what they are. So is it really surprising that when you have a forum stuffed with over 20 million of them, the things start to get a little bit.. ..you know… r/gaming is like a portal to 2009, where seeing archaic and decrepit jokes and references, is not only common, but expected. I guess it’s the issue with any subreddit based around such a broad theme, that is so popular. How could you possibly have any real discussion about games, when every single upvoted post is a joke, clips from whatever is popular at the time, or just the same subject matter repeated over and over again? r/gaming has always been infamous for its EA hate boner. And you’d like to think it wouldn’t be quite as bad as it’s reputation.. ..but no. It’s.. evr- it is everywhere! At least it’s nice to know that the Wizards of r/gaming are single-handedly crushing a giant corporation. Oh, but Anthem looks quite good though. I’ll buy the Legion of Dawn Edition, but just not get any of the microtransactions. Yeah! That’ll show them! To me, it seems completely redundant! I thought the entire point of subreddits was to eliminate the frustration of having large forums with no focus at all! Quite literally every game has its own subreddit, that’s filled with discussion, memes, tips and everything that you could ever need to know about games of importance. My personal favorite example being r/slashrockraiders. The greatest subreddit of all time. When you combine gamer foolishness with Reddit’s stereotypical race to the bottom, pathetic, self-deprecating style of desperate comments, that would even make Sammy Classic Sonic fan recoil in disgust. It leads to a pretty bewildering load of.. ..shit. You don’t need any flowery adjectives to describe it. It is just shit. And I’m sure most reddit users would agree with me, how so many people can be completely oblivious and unaware, have so much to prove and be such stereotypes is both hilarious and kind of.. ..sad in a way. Some of you are probably just thinking: ‘If you don’t like it… don’t look at it.’ ..and.. ..yeah… The only reason I know anything about this subreddit at all, is because I guess when you first create an account, you automatically get subscribed to it. And I never bother to unsubscribe, but, I think it’s time to say farewell. Goodnight, sweet prince. I won’t miss your endless console wars… Yeah, they still doing that. Your hatred of IGN, endless nostalgia baiting for upvotes, bragging about how you’ve reached level 1,000 in ‘Family Guy Another Freakin’ Mobile Game’ Unironically calling things epic all of the time. Upvoting pictures of girls, cause playing video game characters, because, you.. respect the art form of cosplay so much. Self-promoting your video on why Barack Obama should be a DLC character in Smash Bros. And.. Is that- is tha- is that really a Half Life 3 joke? You’re joking! Is that re- Is that honestly a Half Life 3 joke? No No… No! Hopefully you enjoyed the video! Video ends

  1. This is why it’s not always a good idea to praise people who search New,

Sometimes you can’t really unsee the things that you’ll see

  2. Yeah, I'm a gamer.
    G – I hate
    A – Seeing
    M – More than one
    E – Minority character
    R – In my games

  3. As reddit and subreddits grow, the quality goes down fast.

THATS IT BOYS LETS REVIVE DIGG
or i dunno. But this isn't what i fell in love with a long time ago. It turned bad.

  4. You know what’s really fun is when people put this shitty little 😂 after all of their unfunny shitty sentences as if it makes it better to read

  5. I love the witcher 3, I love gaming, but I don't bring it up or let it effect my real life, job, or other hobbies. Those who do tend to get cringy. Like that one co-workerin my past that made all others cringe with it. It was also the only thing he knew to talk about. It gave me 2ed hand embarrassment when we talked about games and lore at work. Why one can ask? Well their's a time and place for everything. At work, surrounded by mostly, women is not one.

  6. I fuckin love that at 1:53 you mention how you were playing your Xbox showing wii controllers with spider-man ps4 in the bg

  7. why did it feel like the past 2 and half years youtube kowtowed to unwitty masses who assume they are awesome and shit on anything outside their ream of stereotypical consistency and safe space of familiars. I really didnt notice the transition from earned my sub, to strategically buying their way their by stealing topics and leaving me underwhelmed and somewhat angry i wasted time on such a derivative non-lived in position on a safe stance on something that appeals to a broad as audience as possible. Its blasphemy, I've been supporting the haters of the mediocre and generic this whole time and I hated any fake hype bought phony who feigned important relevance. I'm glad I remembered and returned to my roots.

  8. "I Hate EA" is literally the "I like pumpkin spice latte" of videogame culture.

It's not a personality trait, I don't like EA much either but please stop shoving it down our throats please. It's so overused.

  9. I hate all the posts on Reddit insulting console players or saying that they are just PC’s. Some people like to sit on their couch with a controller and not have to deal with launchers, web stores, or anything else. Some people just want to game, and they need to respect that.

  10. 5:23 ah yes, trying to find any shitty excuse to hate on fortnite because they simply don't enjoy the game. Reminds me of the 2010 days when everyone was hating on justin bieber because of no reason whatsoever, or maybe because they couldn't stand to see something be so popular if they themselves didn't enjoy it.

  11. "Surprisingly enough this is my opinion. Don't get your dorito dust in a twist."

Someone hates The Last Jedi: FANBOY IHE DORITO-DUST-IN-A-TWIST TO THE RESCUE.

  12. That's actually a problem throughout reddit. Go ahead and try to say you actually don't believe Trump is LITERALLY Hitler in r/politics.

  13. I hate pretentious elitest youtubers who have nothing better to do and no better ideas for original content than trashing literally everyone else.

  14. You don't like something? Just don't use it. You've misunderstood some things and the most important is IT'S OUR COMMUNITY! Yep, that's right. There are communities out there and you become a part of it ONLY if you like it
If you don't, then it's ok. You do you do.

  15. I just got banned for disagreeing with a moderator :-/. I tried to appeal and got muted. That's what made me hate Reddit, how they give moderator tools to trolls.

  16. how can you ignore the thriving gamer culture of screaming racial slurs into the microphone and throwing a fit when vidya game lady hav boobie too small >:(

  17. People don't really hate EA because they're mediocre, they hate them because they exploit children and the disabled with gambling mechanics.

  18. That Witcher point is so true, I love the world of the Witcher, the story and the music but my god it’s a bug filled poorly optimised rushed mess, the gameplay is a joke and it’s a 4 year old game still filled with constant game breaking bugs, maybe GOTY but still very overrated

  19. I think you just enlightened me why I hate gaming culture. 2:58 Generally these people have shitty tastes. This is why gaming sites usually discuss superhero movies as well.

  20. these gamer stereotypes have ruined everything i used to see so many of "if you don't play this you are not a true gamer" and many "true gamer" groups also that's just reddit for you i joined some subreddits thinking that i'll get some tips guides etcc and have some nice discussions but all i got was cringy memes and repetitive posts about hating something and then there will be that person who will whore karma by making a post starting with "unpopular opinion" or "downvote me all you want"

  21. I can't tell what's so special about the Witcher 3, the graphics are impressive but nothing jaw dropping, the narrative is good but it's full of genre cliches, and the gameplay is mediocre at best. I like the music though, at least.

  22. c rinj? h h h i hay evarthin is leefie cunferm!!1! He uZ WORD CRINGLE XDDD gasp

    =:|'● ●|

where the hell are my filters at cmon i cant survive in here without em this gasmask sucks cmON WHERE ARE THEY HELP PLEASE ANYONE HE-

  23. Anyone who makes their hobby their entire personality needs to stop the hobby immediately and do some soul searching. The only group that really does this is gamers and stoners. You don’t see stamp collectors referring to themselves as stampers and centering their entire lives around stamps to the point they make memes about it and wear clothing announcing it.

Although I will say stoners are the worst cause it’s literally just smoking. You aren’t doing anything at all that requires learning, having skill, being creative…

  24. Do you hate EA

Do you hate any form of micro transaction (even if cosmetic only)

Do you hate the EpicGames Store

Do you hate women and minorities

then r/gaming is perfect for you

  25. The biggest mistake here was going on Reddit, it's nothing more than a socialist echo chamber that bans you if you dare say Hitler was wrong.

  26. anthem turned out garbage and as of a couple days ago the lead designer quit bioware… shocker
    EA is awful.
    the hate boner is deserved.

  27. EA and Most Publishers are greedy shitstains who've destroyed the quality of games in favor of generating massive profit off loot boxes and microtransactions. So… It needs to keep being repeated until that shit stops.

Rest of the points I agree with you.

  28. one of the most upvoted posts of all time is one in support of the banning of microtransactions and lootboxes entirely
