Day 8 evening | Wheelchair basketball highlights | Rio 2016 Paralympics games

It was Germany versus Netherlands in the second
semifinal of the women’s wheelchair basketball. Germany the defending
Paralympic champions, Netherlands the bronze medallists in London who had knocked out reigning
world champions Canada to reach this stage.
In the first half Germany defended well and made it very difficult for Netherlands which
saw them open up a 13 points lead. In the third quarter the situation was reversed.
The Germans increased the lead in the beginning but the Dutch fought back and
were only 5 points behind in the end of the ten minutes. But Germany always managed to stay in front and went through to the final. The first semi-final of the men’s wheelchair basketball
saw Spain take on Great Britain. The Spanish were looking to qualify for the
final for the first time in their history but the British were in form after beating
Australia in the quarter-finals. The game remained tight in the beginning,
however in the second quarter Spain took the lead 35 points
to 28. And the Spanish managed to keep the lead right
until the end of the game. So Spain were the winners against Great Britain. They will compete in the final against the
winner of the second semifinal between Turkey and United States.
