Day 6 of the athletics and nine gold medals
to report on. We start on the track, and in the women’s
400m T20, Poland’s Barbara Niewiedzial broke the world record last October but four
other athletes here had gone sub 60 seconds this season.
In the field, India’s Devendra won the
men’s javelin F46 with his third throw.
And there was gold for Nigeria in the women’s javelin throw F54. Flora Ugwunwa’s 20.25 a
new world record. Up next on the track was the men’s 1500m T11.
At the bell home favourite Odair Santos was
in the lead.
In the women’s shot put F37 Germany’s Franziska Liebhardt broke her own world record. Her
first attempt of 13.96 enough to take home the gold medal.
On the track and in the women’s 1500m T53/54 – United States were looking good for all
three medals going into the final lap.
And in the men’s 1500m T53/54 – Thailand’s Prawat Wahoram was leading as they approached the bell.
In the women’s Long Jump T12, Ukraine’s Oksana Zubkovska’s
effort of 6.11 was more than enough for gold. And there was an upset in the women’s 200m
T11. Brazilian favourite Terezinha Guilhermina was disqualified for a false start. That
paved the way for a new champion.
