Alright, we’ve made it to the hockey arena,
things are heating up! Check it out behind me! I’m really feeling the rhythm, the crowd
is loving it! (music) Take a look at this crowd, we’ve got a packed house here for the Korea Canada game. Canada’s
currently in the lead but the Korean fans are just loving it. (cheering) Ok so for this segment, what I want to talk about particularly is the gear that the athletes
are using. As you may have seen in a previous episode that I made, I met with some researchers
from the International Paralympic Committee. Now, previous research has shown that for
the athletes in these sledge hockey events, the lower extremity injuries are far and beyond
any other sport because of the impacts that these guys just ram right into each other. It’s
unbelievable! Now, the research for those particular injuries
show that this was happening because of the design of the sledge and the way that it wasn’t
really protecting their legs. Now, since that research has come out, what we have found
is that the sleds have changed and now there are protective barriers to protect the legs
from these injuries and the impacts from the competitiveness of this sport and the unbelievable
athletic performance. For more information on the research related
to the injuries for the paralympic athletes, I want you to go to the International Paralympic
Committee website for all of the numbers and figures on that but for now, I want you to
also tune in to watch the games as we complete these semi-finals and move on to the medaling
games. Enjoy!
