BYU Football with Kalani Sitake – September 3, 2019

September 13, 2019

ALL OF THE PRESSURE AND THAT WAS THE GAME PLAN GOING INTO THE GAME. FOR THE MOST PART, FROM THE BEGINNING.>>AND THAT GUY WE’RE TALKING ABOUT. ZACK MOSS, AND IT WAS 9-6 AT HALFTIME, AFTER WHICH BYU SCORED, AND IT MIGHT HAVE COME LOOSE BEFORE THE PYLON AND IT WAS CALLED G IT WAS A 21 POINT RUN IN WHICH UTAH KIND OF PULLED AWAY, AND THEY WERE DEALING WITH A NEWKIRK, NO LONGER MATT, AND BYU’S THREE TURNOVERS THAT NIGHT WAS A FUMBLE AND THE EXCHANGE, AND IT HELPED TO SET UP ZACK MOSS FOR UTAH’S FINAL TOUCHDOWN.>>THE INTERCEPTIONS, WHENEVER YOU HAVE THE INTERCEPTIONS, FOR A TOTAL OF 23 POINTS, THE 6s AND THE FUMBLE ON THE 23-YARD LINE, JUST PUTS THE DEFENSE IN A BAD SPOT. AND THOUGH YOU WOULD LIKE THE DEFENSE TO RESPOND BETTER THAN THAT, THAT SITUATION, IT WAS NOT A GOOD SPOT FOR OUR TEAM TO BE IN, AND THAT WAS AN ISSUE IN THIS RIVALRY GAME, ESPECIALLY IN THE LAST DECADE, WHEN YOU SEE THREE TURNOVERS, 20 POINTS, DOESN’T GIVE US A CHANCE TO DO BATTLE WITH THEM. AND THEY WENT INTO 4 MINUTE MODE AND PLAYED THE CLOCK BECAUSE THEY COULD. SITTING ON THE LEAD AND TRYING TO KEEP THE BALL AWAY FROM OUR OFFENSE.>>BYU IN THE END DID NOT GET THE BALL BACK, AND UTAH WAS ABLE TO RUN IT OUT. THE LANE DELAY, 19 OFF THE CLOCK.>>I THINK IN THE SECOND HALF, THE POSITION WAS 23 MINUTES TO 7, WHICH WAS REALLY TOUGH TO DEAL WITH. AND THAT’S NOT JUST ON OUR OFFENSE SUSTAINING DRIVES OR NOT TURNING THE BALL OVER. IT’S OUR OFFENSE GETTING OFF THE FIELD. AND IF WE CAN FIND OTHER GUYS TO ROTATE IN AND KEEP IT FRESH, WE CAN DO THAT, BUT UTAH MADE PLAYS AND THEY GOT THE BALL WHEN THEY NEEDED T.>> IT WAS ZACK WILSON’S FIRST NIGHT AS THE GUY, AND IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE, AND YOU WENT TO MATT BUSHMAN A LOT. HE HAD A NIGHT IN THE OPENER, AND WILLIAMS, WE SHOWED THE 18 YARDS EARLIER, AND HE PLAYED WELL AS WELL. DESPITE THE FUMBLE BY ZACK LATE IN THE GAME, I THOUGHT THERE WERE GOOD THINGS, BUT AS KELANI MENTIONED, IT’S OVERSHADOWED, RIGHT?>>OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE MISTAKES TO LEARN FROM, BUT THERE WERE THINGS TO BUILD OFF. AND I THINK THAT THE EASIEST THING, STOP MAKING THE MISTAKES, BUT WE FELT OUR O LINE WAS ABLE TO HANG IN THERE, AND IT ALL COMES BACK THE NEXT YEAR, SO LOOK AT THE EIGHT GUYS THAT GET SIGNIFICANT REPS. SO THAT’S SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN BUILD OFF. BUT REALLY, IT’S JUST BEING MINDFUL OF THE FOOTBALL IS IMPORTANT FOR US, AND GOING FROM HERE ON OUT, WE HAVE TO BE SMART WITH THE BALL. AND THAT MEANS BALL SECURITY AND TAKING CHANCES ON THE THROW GAME, AND TAKING SURE THAT WE’RE SMART WITH THE BALL, YOU KNOW? BUT THAT’S WHAT WE HAVE TO KEEP PREACHING TO OUR PLAYERS, AND AS COACHES, WE HAVE TO BE MINDFUL OURSELVES, THE PLAY CALLS.>>Anchor: IT’S UNREAL THAT IN NINE GAMES, THEY WOULD SCORE NINE DEFENSIVE TOUCHDOWNS WITH OUT BYU SCORING ONE.>>THAT’S WHAT THE DEFENSE IS SET TO DO, FOUR-MAN RUSH, AND PLAY PRESSMAN, AND BUMP AND LOCK ON THE LINE LINE AND MAKING IT HARDER FOR THE RECEIVERS DOWN THE FIELD. AND I THINK DEFENSIVELY FOR US, WE NEED TO FIND THE WAY TO DO THE SAME AS WELL, AND DISRUPT THE TIMING OF THE QUARTERBACK. I DON’T THINK THAT WE DID THAT WELL, AND ALTHOUGH THAT’S NOT A LOT OF YARDS, HAVING THE TIMING IN HIS THROWS, THAT’S WHAT WE HAVE TO IMPROVE ON ON THE DEFENSE.>>DESPITE THE NEGATIVE OUTCOME, THERE WERE BRIGHT SPOTS IN THE PERFORMANCE, AND WE ASKED EACH OF THE PLAYERS TO PICK THE PLAYER OF THE WEEK. AND HERE ARE THE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR THE UTAH GAME. WE SEE THE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, AND ED LAMB SAYING THAT DIAN ON THAT ONE.>>THAT’S DIAN’S WORK, AND YOU SEE HIM ON HUNT, AND HE’S ALWAYS THE FIRST ONE DOWN. AND HE’S STARTING TO GET DOUBLES ON PUNT COVERING AND KICKOFF, SO PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT HIM, AND THEY RECOGNIZE THAT HE MAKES BIG PLAYS. IN THE PAST IN HIS CAREER, HE’S ALWAYS THE FIRST ONE THERE, WHEN THERE’S A PUNT, HE RECOVERS IT QUICK, AND THAT’S BECAUSE HE CARES ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS, YOU KNOW? AND THAT’S SOMETHING THAT HE TAKES A LOT OF PRIDE IN, AND DEFENSIVELY, HE’S REALLY QUIET BECAUSE THE PLAYS NEVER WENT HIS WAY, BUT HE PLAYED WELL AND MADE TACKLES, AND WE NEED MORE GUYS TO PLAY LIKE HIM AND FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE. I THOUGHT THAT BRADLEY, AND A POSSIBLE HIGH DRAFT PICK AND POSSIBLE ALL AMERICAN CANDIDATE, YOU KNOW? AND I THINK THAT BRADLEY WENT TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE WITH WHAT BRADY WAS ABLE TO DO. BRADY IS A GREAT PLAYER. HE CAN DO A LOT OF GREAT THINGS FOR US AS A SOPHOMORE. BUT YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE POSITIVES AND KEEP BUILDING ON IT, AND WITH THAT, YOU FIX THE ERRORS THAT YOU MADE. RECORDLESS OF WHAT THE RESULT IS IN THE GAME, YOU HAVE TO FIND WAYS TO LEARN AND GET BETTER. BUT YOU HAVE TO PRAISE THE GUYS FOR WHAT THEY’RE DOING RIGHT. AND THERE ARE A LOT OF GUYS THAT HAVE DONE REALLY GOOD THINGS, YOU KNOW? IT IS OVERSHADOWED BY THE OUTCOME AND THE RESULT AND THE MISTAKES THAT WE MADE. SO LET’S STOP MAKING SO MANY MISTAKES SO WE CAN KEEP PRAISING OUR GUYS.>>MORE PRAISE. IT’S WORKING.>>NO MISTAKES.>>AND A REMINDER FOR DAY-TO-DAY, COUGAR SPORTS PLAY-BY-PLAY, WATCH BYU SPORTS NATION WITH SPENCER LINTON AND JAROM JORD. WHEN WE COME BACK, A REVIEW OF THE VOLUNTEERS.>> BYU FOOTBALL WITH KELANI SITAKE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY:>>Greg: WE’RE BACK INSIDE OF STUDIO C FOR MORE BYU FOOTBALL WITH KELANI SITAKE. AND YOU’RE LOOKING AHEAD TO THE COUGAR’S NEXT GAME THIS SATURDAY IN KNOXVILLE. LIVE AT 5:00 EASTERN, 2:00 PACIFIC ON BYU RADIO. AND THE KICKOFF BEGINS AT 6:00 PACIFIC, ON BYU RADIO, WITH POST-GAME COVERAGE ON BYU-TV AND BYU RADIO. EACH WEEK, WE GIVE YOU ACCESS TO AN ASSISTANT COACH WHO HIGHLIGHTS THE PLAYS IN THE PREVIOUS GAMES, WITH OUR OWN JAROM JORDAN OF BYU SPORTS NATION FAME AND HE SIXTHS DOWN WITH COACH SITAKE.>> COACH, OBVIOUSLY, WITH UTAH, ACCENTUATING SOME OF THE GOOD THAT YOU SAW IN THIS GAME, AND WHAT DID YOU LIKE?>>THE FIRST PLAY UP HERE, WE’RE RUNNING A BASIC SMASH CONTEST WITH A CORNER ROUTE AND A HITCH, AND BECAUSE WE HAVE A STACK ALIGNMENT AND WE’RE NOT OUT WIDE, IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE TO RUN A HITCH HERE, AND IT’S A SPEEDOUT. YOU HAVE TO CARRY AND RESPECT THIS CORNER FOR WHAT IT DOES NOW, IT FORCES THIS FLAT DEFENDER TO HAVE TO WORK ALL THE WAY OUT. AND THAT’S JUST A WAY TO GENERATE CHEAP YARDS HERE, AND WE COULD HAVE GONE EITHER SIDE. BUT MATT AS WELL, AND IF THE FLAT DEFENDERS PLAY LOW, WE COULD HAVE HIT THE CORNERS.>>OKAY, MATT BUSHMAN, A 17-YARDER RIGHT HERE.>>THIS IS ONE OF THEM ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF A QUICK ROUTE HERE, AND THIS IS JUST ONE MOTION THAT WE LIKE TO ADD, THAT’S WINDOW DRESSING BUT WHAT IT DOES, AS WE SPRINT RIGHT OUT TO THE FIELD, ZACK IS LOOKING AT IT FIRST TO SEE WHO IS GOING TO RUN WITH HIM. BUT GETTING THE DEFENDER OUT HERE, IF HE STATES OVER MATT, WE HOPE THAT BEADY WILL BE OUT THERE WITH GREENE GRASS TO RUN. WE HAVE TO GET ANOTHER ONE, OVERLOADED TO THE FIELD AND BODIES ARE TIGHT, THAT WILL TELL US ZACK THAT HE CAN GO TO THE OTHER SIDE. ONE ZACK HAS THE FREEDOM TO GO WHERE HE WANTS TO GO, HE HAS TO READ WHO THE FLAT DEFENDER IS HERE. BECAUSE HE’S OUT WITH LOPINI.>>AND THE NICE CATCH OVER THE MIDDLE.>>YEP, SO THIS IS WHAT WE CALL A BASIC STEAM ROUTE. AND THESE GUYS HAVE TO READ A LOT OF SEAM ROUTES ON THE INSIDE. SO WE HAVE THE MIDDLE NEED OPEN AND CLOSED. MIDDLE FIELD OPEN IS WHERE YOU HAVE TWO SAFETIES AND THAT’S WHERE THE SOFT COVERAGE S. AND WHEN THE MIDDLE FIELD IS CLOSED, USUALLY THE SEAM IS WHERE YOU WANT TO ATTACK, AND WHEN IT’S OPEN, YOU WANT TO ATTACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD. SO ZACH REALIZES THAT HE HAS TO REALIZE THE SAFETY. AND IF HE OVERPLAYS T. I HAVE HIM ON THE SEAM INSIDE. AND IF THIS GUY HANGS FLAT AND TIGHT HERE, HE ENDS UP WITH THE GOAL ROUTE BECAUSE THIS GUY HAS SAFETY OVER THE TOP. SO ZACH IT DOES A GREAT JOB, AND DELIVERS A BEAUTIFUL THROW ON TIME. AND IT’S HARD TO DEFEND.>>WHAT WILL BE A KEY FOR THIS SATURDAY FOR VICTORY?>>REALLY, JUST PLAYING WITH COMPLETE TENACITY. EVERY SINGLE PLAY, IT’S A RUN TO MAKE THOSE DBs FIELD IT. AND TO BE ALL OVER THEM EVERY SINGLE GAME. AND THE PASSING GAME, JUST WITH THE MATCH UP, WITH THE TECHNIQUE AND THE CONCEPT OF RUNNING AND BEING ONE STEP AHEAD. AND SO FAR, I REALLY FEEL CONFIDENT WITH THE GAME PLAN.>>THANKS FOR YOUR INSIGHT. I APPRECIATE IT.>> THANK YOU. [ APPLAUSE ]>>Greg: A GREAT RECEIVER IN HIS OWN RIGHT. AND YOU CAN FEEL THE PASSION FOR THE CRAFT OF RECEIVING, CAN’T YOU?>>Kelani: YES, HE WAS AN OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AT WEBER STATE. AND HE UNDERSTANDS THE PASSING GAME WITH THE RECEIVERS, AND THE CONNECTION WITH THE QUARTERBACK, SO HE HAS COACHED BOTH POSITIONS. HE HAS A BRIGHT MIND, AND HE UNDERSTANDS THE GAME WELL. HE UNDERSTANDS THE RECEIVERS, AND HE NEVER SETTLES ON ANYTHING. HE WANTS THOSE GUYS TO WORK HARD. AND A LOT OF RECEIVER COACHES TALK ABOUT BLOCKING, AND HE WANTS THEM TO BE TEN THEIRACIOUS IN THE BLOCKING AND HOPEFULLY GREAT PLAYS NEXT WEEK.>>Greg: NEXT UP, BYU’S FIRST EVER TRIP TO TENIFA, AND THEY’RE IN BOUNCE BACK MODE, RIGHT? BYU GOT TEED UP BY A 20-POINT UNDERDOG AT GEORGIA STATE. AND IT MADE IT LOOK EASY GETTING OUT OF KNOXVILLE WITH A 38-38 WIN, AND I KEPT WAITING FOR THE COMEBACK AND IT NEVER CAME.>>REALISTICALLY, YOU COULD WATCH THE FILM AND SEE HOW TALENTEDS, AND IT SEEMS THAT GEORGIA STATE WAS IN A PERFECT STORM. AND THEN WHAT THEY DID ON THE OFFENSE AND THE DEFENSE AND CREATED A LOT OF HAVOC, AND AGAIN, YOU LOOK AT THE TURNOVERS AS A BIG ISSUE TOO. SO THEY HAD SOME TURNOVERS, AND WE DID TOO, AND WHOEVER TAKES CARE OF THE FOOTBALL HAS A BETTER CHANCE OF WINNING THIS WEEK.>>Greg: SO BYU AND TENIFA BOTH GAVE IT UP RAN FOR 100 AND ALLOWED FOR 200, AND THOSE THINGS TOGETHER ARE NOT A GOOD COMBINATION.>>Kelani: AND THE DEFENSIVE MINDED COACHES WANT TO GET THOSE, AND THAT’S SOMETHING THAT I THINK TENIFA IS REALLY GOING TO WORK ON THIS WEEK, JUST LIKE WE ARE. I HAVE A LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN OUR COACHES AND OUR PLAYERS, AND I THINK THAT WE’LL RESPOND THE RIGHT WAY, BUT IT’S GOING BACK TO THE FUNDAMENTALS AND THE SENSE OF EXECUTION>>Greg: THE PHRASE IS OVERYOU , BUT 1995 AND 1988, AND THAT’S A SPOT FOR NEITHER TEAM TO BE. IT’S AN URGENT THING.>>Kelani: BOTH TEAMS ARE IN THE SAME POSITION, AND WE HAVE A LOT OF PRIDE AND CONFIDENCE GOING IN, AND I’M SURE THAT THEY WILL FEEL THE SAME WAY. IT’S AN AWAY GAME FOR US, AND IT’S TIME FOR US TO RALLY AROUND THIS, AND GET OVER THE LOSS AND FIND WAYS TO TAKE IT OUT ON THE NEXT OPPONENT. AND THAT’S TENIFA RIGHT NOW. THERE’S NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK, OTHER THAN LEARN FROM IT, AND GET BETTER AND MAKE SURE THAT WE MINIMIZE AS MANY OF THE MISTAKES AS POSSIBLE AND PUT OURSELVES IN A BETTER POSITION TO EXECUTE WELL AND WIN GAMES>>Greg: THE TENIFA COACHING STAFF HAS NAMES THAT PEOPLE MAY RECOGNIZE. CHRIS WINKY, AROUND SINCE TEAM MARTIN, AND THEN YOU HAVE JIM CHENEY, THE OC ON THE FAR LEFT. AND HE HAD GREAT SUCCESS AT GEORGIA RECENTLY BEFORE HE’S BACK. SO 16 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ON THAT STAFF. AND ALL OF THE HEAT ASSOCIATED WITH IT.>>Kelani: YEAH, A LOT OF EXPERIENCE, WITH GREAT COACHES IN THAT GROUP. THEY HAVE SEEN A LOT OF SUCCESS IN THEIR EXPERIENCE WHERE THEY WORKED AT. AND I’M SURE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN IN POSITIONS WHERE THEY CAN BATTLES BACK FROM THIS. THE FOCUS, I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE, AND GREAT COACHES AND EVERYTHING, BUT BYU FOR ME, BEING THE BEST BYU WHERE WE SHOW UP IN KNOXVILLE AND PLAY THIS GAME ON SATURDAY. THAT WILL BE OUR FOCUS AND SEE IF TENIFA CAN HANDLE US BEING AT OUR BEST>>Greg: SOME OF THE NAMES THAT THEY WILL SEE OVER THE WEEKEND, ON OFFENSE, THEY HAD BACK SOME OF THE GUYS THAT OUR VIEW SEE, AND I THINK THEIR TOP EIGHT RECEIVERS FROM LAST YEAR ARE BACK. THE QUARTERBACKS HAVE EXPERIENCE, AND THE BACKFIELD IS CERTAINLY SOLID. THEY HAVE TO WORK THROUGH SOME ISSUES RIGHT NOW, KELANI.>>Kelani: THAT’S SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE TO EXPOSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. SO I THINK WE FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH OUR GUYS UP FRONT, AND HOW BIG THEY ARE, AND WE HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE THAT STRENGTH. BECAUSE LOOK AT THEIR TEACH. THEY HAVE SOME REALLY GOOD PLAYERS AS WELL, AND THEY HAVE SOME YOUTH AND INEXPERIENCE AT THE O LINE, AND I THINK IF YOU’RE LOOKING AT OUR MATCHUPS, THEY HAVE SOME REALLY GREAT SKILLED PLAYERS AND SPEED AND ATHLETICISM. AND THEY FAILED TO CONNECT ON OFFENSE LAST WEEK, AND WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY CONTINUE MAKING MISTAKES AND NOT ARE ABLE TO BE CONNECT THIS WEEK>>Greg: YOU HAVE A PLAYER, WILLIAMS, PLAYED AT TENIFA TWICE, AND YOU HAVE A COORDINATOR, JEFF GRIMES, WHO HAS TAKEN THEM BEFORE AS AN OPPOSITE COACH IN WINS, SO YOU HAVE A LOT IN THAT INCREDIBLE ENVIRONMENT. OVER 400,000 FANS, THE BEST IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.>>Kelani: OUR GUYS ARE EXCITED FOR THE GAME AND THE MATCHUP, AND WE’RE GOING TO DO A WALK-THROUGH PRACTICE AT THE STADIUM SO THEY CAN SEE IT, AND BE ABLE TO VISUALIZE THEMSELVES MAKING PLAYS THE NEXT DAY, SO I THINK BEING THERE, AND BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA, AND SEEING THAT IT’S GOING TO BE IMPORTANT FOR THOSE GUYS, BUT I THINK OUR GUYS ARE CHOMPING AT THE BIT AND THEY WANT ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY ANOTHER GAME, AND THIS GAME COULDN’T GET HERE ANY QUICKER>>Greg: YOU HAVE FOUR EASTERN TIME ZONE GAMES THIS YEAR, AND BECAUSE YOU’RE GOING SO FAR TO THE EAST, WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR THE TEAM?>>Kelani: WHENEVER WE GO TWO-TIME ZONES AWAY, WE GO TWO DAYS EARLY, SO WE’LL LEAVE AFTERWARDS AFTER ARIZONA AND LEAVE THURSDAY EVENING, GETTING TO TENIFA AND GET A SNACK AND DO MEETINGS, AND GO TO BED AND HAVE SOME THINGS PLANNED FOR THE NEXT DAY, MEETINGS AND A WALK-THROUGH. A PRACTICE AT THE STADIUM. SO I THINK OUR GUYS ARE USED TO IT, AND WE DID THAT IN WISCONSIN, AND WE HAVE DONE IT WHEN WE WENT TO UMASS, SO THEY’RE KIND OF USED TO DOING THAT WHEN WE GO BACK EAST.>>Greg: JUST FOR THE RECORD, IN EASTERN TIME ZONES, 3 AND 2.>>Kelani: I KNEW YOU WOULD BRING IN STATS.>>Greg: IT’S GOOD ONE, EASTERN TIME ZONES, AND I FEEL LIKE YOU WERE IN A SIMILAR SPOT LAST YEAR. YOU HAD AN OPENER AGAINST CAL. AND IT WAS AN OPENER AND YOU HAD TO BOUNCE BACK GOING ON THE ROAD TO WISCONSIN AT THE TIME. AND YOU GUYS CAME OUT OF THERE WITH THE WIN, SO YOU HAD LEAVE TO SAY, YEAH, WE HAD A TOUGH THING, AND YOU DID IT.>>Kelani: NOBODY LIKES THE STRUGGLE, RIGHT? NOBODY WANTED TO BE IN THIS POSITION. BUT I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS WE LEARN FROM IT AND RESPOND. AND I THINK NOW THAT WE’RE IN THIS POSITION, WE HAVE TO FIGHT BACK, AND I THINK THERE’S A LOT OF GROWTH AND PROGRESS THAT CAN COME FROM STRUGGLE AND HARDSHIPS, WHETHER IT’S LIFE OR FOOTBALL. WE CAN ALL LEARN A LOT FROM IT, AND I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO IMPROVING AS MUCH AS WE CAN WITH WEEK ONE AND TWO, AND THERE’S A SENSE OF URGENCY LIKE YOU MENTIONED BEFORE ON THE TEAM WITH THE PLAYERS, AND I THINK THAT THEY WANT TO GO OUT AND PERFORM WELL FOR THE FANS>>Greg: WHAT DO YOU THINK CAN HAPPEN AGAIN?>>Kelani: IT’S WHAT WE SAW ALREADY, THE PLAYERS TAKING CONTROL, AND RALLYING AROUND EACH OTHER, AND NOT NEEDING A COACH TO SPARK THEM. SO I WAS PLEASED WITH THAT, UPSET ABOUT THE GAME LAST WEEK, BUT I WAS REALLY EXCITE WHEN DO I SAW THE PLAYERS WERE TAKING LEADERSHIP AND OWNERSHIP, AND I SAW IT CONTINUE, AND LOOKS AT THE WEEKEND AND EVEN INTO THE LAST TWO PRACTICES THAT WE HAD MONDAY AND TO TODAY>>Greg: CALLING A TIMEOUT. AND AFTER THE BREAK, WE WANT YOU TO KNOW YOU CAN ENJOY A FULL HOT BREAKFAST BUFFET, ON THE PROVO RIVER, AT THE RESIDENCE INN, MARRIOTT IN PROVO. BYU FANS, TUNE IN MONDAYS AT 1:00 EASTERN, AND 10:00 PACIFIC AS WE TALK ON THE COORDINATOR’S CORNER WITH JEFF GRIMES. MONDAYS AT 1:00 EASTERN ON BYU-TV. AFTER THE BREAK, THE COUGARS. [ APPLAUSE ]>> THE FAN BASE, I THINK WE’LL CONTINUE TO THROW THE FOOTBALL. SO IT WILL BE FUN TO GET OUT THERE AND HAVE COMPETITION.>>AND JAKE OLDROYD IS BACK AGAIN.>> FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THE COUGARS ARE ROLLING INTO ROCKY TOP, AND IT’S BYU AND TENIFA THIS SATURDAY. AND THEN THE LEAD-UP TO THE 2019 SEASON, WE HEARD FROM A NUMBER OF PLAYERS ABOUT THIS.>> OH, THAT’S GOING TO BE AWFUL. TENIFA, THE TOP TWO.>> I KNOW THE FANS ARE VERY PASSIONATE.>> THE ATMOSPHERE, I’VE GROWN UP WATCHING THE TENIFA GAMES, SO TO ACTUALLY BE THERE.>> I’VE BEEN TO TENIFA. THEY HAVE A LARGE FAN BASE, AND I THINK THAT THEY CONTINUE TO THROW THE FOOTBALL. SO IT WILL BE REALLY FUN TO GO OUT THERE AND PLAY FOOTBALL.>>AT TENIFA, I’M EXCITED. MORE IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS. I’M EXCITED. IT’S GOING TO BE A WHILE OTHER LEVEL. IT’S ON A DIFFERENT SCALE FOR A REASON, AND THE FANS ARE SUPER PASSIONATE ABOUT THE GAME. AND WE’RE GOING TO WIN OR LOSE, AND USE IT TO OUR ADVANTAGE, AND HAVE THE ENERGY. I’VE NEVER PLAYED A GAME LIKE THAT BEFORE. AND IT’S EXCITING.>>GOING BACK TO WISCONSIN LAST YEAR, IT WAS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE, TO BE ABLE TO PLAY IN ANOTHER STADIUM LIKE THAT.>> ITS EXCITING. TO BE ABLE TO PLAY IN THE CROWD, THE CONFERENCE FOR BYU FOOTBALL, AND ALL OF THE SPORTS THAT MATTER. SO I JUST LOVE THE EXCITEMENT THAT COMES WITH IT.>>Greg: ALL RIGHT, COUGARS COME COMING UP, AND YOU CAN USE THE HASHTAG FOR KELANI’S SHOW, AND WE HAVE LIVE AUDIENCE WITH QUESTIONS READY TO ROLL. AND STARTING HERE, WE HAVE DAVID DOMINGO.>>THANK YOU, COACH, AND I GUESS THE QUESTION FOR YOU TONIGHT, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINS THAT MAKE BYU DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SCHOOLS THAT YOU’VE COACHED?>>IN OTHER SCHOOLS WHAT?>>IN OTHER SCHOOLS THAT YOU’VE COACHED>>Kelani: THE FANS, BECAUSE I PLAYED HERE AND GREW UP A BYU FAN. WHAT MAKES BYU UNIQUE IS THE TRADITION AND THE FAN BASE. IT’S WORLDWIDE. AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE HAVE HERE, LOOK AT THE RECRUITING PITCH, THE GUYS REPRESENT MORE THAN — THE PURPOSE HERE IS MORE THAN JUST FOOTBALL. I THINK OUR GUYS DO A LOT OF THINGS FOR SERVICE, AND THEY LIVE SPIRITUAL LIVES, AND THEY DON’T MIND REPRESENTING THEIR FAMILIES AND THE GOSPEL AND THE CHURCH AND FOOTBALL. SO ITS A LOT MORE FUN DOING IT THAT WAY>>Greg: I’M NOT SURE WHERE THE NEXT QUESTION IS GOING TO GO, 12 HOUR DRIVE FOR US FROM DE MOINES TO ROCKY TOP. ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A ROAD TRIP PLAYLIST?>>Kelani: FROM ME?>>Greg: FROM YOU.>>Kelani: WELL, IF EVERYBODY FALLS ASLEEP, YOU HAVE TO PLAY SOMETHING UPBEAT. SO YOU CAN’T GO ALONG WITH THE FIGHT SONG.>>Greg: WE HAD IT ON THE LOOP FOR 12 HOURS, NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.>>Kelani: NOT ON THE LOOP, WHATEVER THEY GET THE GAS TANK OR CHANGE DRIVERS, THEY SHOULD PLAY THE FIGHT SONG.>>Greg: WHEN YOU’RE DRIVING TO WORK, ARE YOU SILENT IN THE CAR?>>Kelani: I USUALLY LISTEN TO MUSIC, AND IT’S A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS. THE KIDS ARE THE ONES WHO ARE HIP TO MUSIC, AND THEY KEEP ME UPDATED BUT I LIKE CLASSIC ROCK A LOT AND REGGE AND STUFF LIKE THAT. WHATEVER I’M IN THE MOOD FOR, I USUALLY LISTEN TO MUSIC>>Greg: BACK IN THE STUDIO, KENNEDY, IS THAT RIGHT?>>YES, THAT’S CORRECT. MY QUESTION IS FOR YOU, COACH, THERE ARE A LOT OF AWESOME STADIUMS IN THE U.S., AND I’VE BEEN TO TENIFA AND IT’S A COOL STADIUM. AND SOME OF THE BEST PLACES YOU’VE GONE TO EITHER COACH OR PLAY AT?>>Kelani: I THINK THIS ONE WILL BE FUN, AND WISCONSIN WAS FUN LAST YEAR, BUT ANYPLACE THAT’S DIFFERENT. WE HAVE BEEN TO A LOT OF DIFFERENT SPOTS. I LIKE THE NFL STADIUMS. WE PLAYED UMASS IN GILLETTE STADIUM, AND THAT WAS REALLY COOL. WE PLAYED ARIZONA IN THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX STADIUM, SO I LIKE BEING IN THE NFL STADIUMS. OUR PLAYERS THINK THAT ITS COOL THIS WE’RE PLAYING THEM. AND THAT WILL BE A LOT OF FUN>>Greg: I PERSONALLY LIKE — BECAUSE IT’S SPECIAL.>>Kelani: IF YOU’RE IN THE MCC, YOU HAVE TO HAVE BUSHES LINED UP OUTSIDE.>>THE GREENERY.>>Greg: SOCIAL MEDIA FROM AT DAN HASLAM. WHICH POSITION GROUP ARE YOU THE MOST COMFORTABLE WITH AFTER WEEK ONE?>>I LIKE THE O LINE, AND I WISH WE COULD HAVE HAD MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO SEE THEM PLAY MORE SNAPS. I THOUGHT THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THAT WE THREW THE BALL, IT ZACK WAS ABLE TO AVOID SOME SACKS AND SOME PRESSURE, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, THE ONE SACK THEY HAD, KIND OF JUST WALKED INTO IT. I THOUGHT THEY PROTECTED ZACK WELL, AND THE RUN GAME. I GUESS POSSIBLY THE BEST D LINE GROUP IN THE CULTURE RIGHT NOW>>Greg: ONE SACK IS ALL?>>I FEEL REALLY GOOD ABOUT ALL OF OUR GROUPS, BUT THAT WAS ONE THAT STOOD OUT TO ME, WHERE I FELT LIKE EVERYONE WAS INTRIGUED WITH THAT MATCHUP, AND I WISH WE COULD SUPER SEEN MORE. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE HOW THEY MATCH UP AGAINST THE SCC TEAM AND TENIFA, AND WE’LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS. BUT I WAS REALLY INTRIGUED AND I’M REALLY HAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT THAT GROUP GETS BIGGER EVERY YEAR. AND THEY WILL BE EVEN BIGGER NEXT YEAR. SO I’M EXCITED ABOUT THE WAY THEY PLAY, BUT THE WHOLE TEAM, I WAS FIRED UP GOING INTO THIS GAME. BUT WE WEREN’T GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE HAD IN THIS GAME AGAINST UTAH AND NOW WE HAVE TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE AND TRY TO SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY, GOING INTO TENIFA.>>THE O LINE, GEORGIA STATE DID RUN AGAINST TENIFA, AND YOU WOULDN’T EXPECT TO SEE A SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK UNDER 100, RIGHT?>>Kelani: YES, IT’S ONE WHERE WE CAN AIR OUT IF WE NEED TO, BUT WE HAVE SOLID RUNNING BACKS WITH THE O LINE, AND WE CAN UTILIZE THEM AND HELP KEEP THE OFFENSE BALANCED BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT BALANCE, JUST GETTING POINTS ON THE BOARD. I THINK THAT THE LAST WE HAD AGAINST UTAH, IT WAS OUR OWN MISS USE, HAMMING THE SNAP AND AMONG OTHER THINGS, THAT DIDN’T GET US IN THE END ZONE. I DON’T MIND FIELD GOALS, AND WE HAVE JAKE HERE TONIGHT, AND I LOVE JAKE, BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE HIM PICK PTs INSTEAD OF FIELD GOALS. BUT I’LL BE OKAY WITH HIM GETTING OUT THERE AND GETTING 3 POINTS.>>Greg: ONE LAST MEDIA QUESTION, WITH BYU DUMB COMING OFF LOSSES, HOW DO YOU AS COACHES GIVE YOUR TEAM RESILIENCE THIS WEEK?>>WE JUST WORK HARD, AND WE HAVE TO GO TO WORK, AND WE HAVE BEEN IN THIS POSITION UNFORTUNATELY BEFORE. AND WE DON’T LIKE IT. THE BEST WAY TO DO IT, THE BAD FEELING, AND FIND WAYS TO WORK TOWARD ANOTHER GOAL THAT’S WORKING TO THE NEXT ONE. SO SHYING AWAY FROM THE MISTAKES IS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT. YOU APPROACH THEM AND TACKLE THEM HEAD ON, AND YOU MOVE ON AND IT’S IMPORTANT TO FOCUS ON THE THINGS THAT WE DID WELL AND PRAISE THOSE, AND ONCE WE DO THAT, WE CAN REALLY FIX THE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO IMPROVE ON. AND I’M EXCITED ABOUT IMPROVING, DOING GOOD THINGS, AND HOPEFULLY GIVING THE FANS THE DRIVE TO TENIFA AND MAKING THEM HAPPY.>>Greg: THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, WE GO THERE ONE FOOTBALL TO ANOTHER. THE TEN ACCOUNT RANKED WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM IN THEIR ANNUAL SHOWDOWN. TOP TEN NATIONALLY, AND SEE THAT MATCH ON BYU-TV, OR BYU RADIO. THAT’S FRIDAY NIGHT AT 9:00 EASTERN, AND 7 PACIFIC. COMING UP AFTER THE BREAK. [ APPLAUSE ] AND CLOSE UP WITH JAKE OLDROYD. THIS IS BYU FOOTBALL WITH KELANI SITAKE.>>Greg: WELCOME BACK TO BYU FOOTBALL WITH KELANI SITAKE. AND THE NFL SEASON ABOUT TO KICK OFF ABOUT A NUMBER OF COUGARS, ROSTER 2019. ZIGGY, MIKE DAVIS, AND WE HEAR ABOUT WE HAVE OUR TWO ON THE NEW YORK JETS, AND THEN A BUNCH OF COUGARS, INCLUDING DANIEL SOUTHERN SEN WITH THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS, JAMAAL WILLIAMS, PACK, AND FRED WARNER. MIDDLE LINEBACKER. AND HE HAS HAD A GREAT CAREER.>>Kelani: HE HAD ONE OF THE BEST ROOKIE SEASONS LAST YEAR. SO I WAS PRETTY PROUD OF HIM. THE GUY KEEPS IN TOUCH WITH OUR PLAYERS, AND OBVIOUSLY, HE HAS A BROTHER ON THE TEAM. BUT HE’S CONNECTED TO THE TEAM. AND HE’S FACE TIMING A LOT OF THE PLAYERS, AND HE’S THINKING ABOUT US. AND WE’RE CHEERING HIM O. AS WELL AS THE OTHER COUGARS IN THE NFL WHO ARE REPRESENTING US THE RIGHT WAY. I’M PROUD OF THEM, WITH THE CHARITY AND THE SERVICE, AND YOU MENTIONED LAST WEEK, THE SERVICE AWARD, AND SO THOSE GUYS ARE EXTENDING WHAT THEY LEARNED HERE AT BYU AND MAKING ALL OF THEIR FAMILIES PROUD.>>WE PUT HIM ON THE LIST, JOHN DENNEY. HE HAS BEEN A SNAPPER THERE FOREVER, HE WILL BE PINGED BY SOMEBODY ELSE, BUT WHAT A GREAT LONG RUN HE HAD WITH MIAMI. IN FACT, HE HAD THE LONGEST CONSECUTIVE GAME STREAK GOING AS OF TODAY>>Kelani: HE HAS PLAYED A LOT OVER THE YEARS, AND I KNEW HIM AND RYAN WHEN THEY WERE PLAYING HERE. SO HE’LL BEqU THAT’S ABSOLUTELY HOW IT WENT. I FELT THAT. AND UNKNOWN TO MY TEAMMATES AND SOME OF MY COACHES. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER MY NAME WAS CALLED, I WAS GOING TO GO IN AND DO WHAT I’VE ALWAYS DONE, BUT I REMEMBER FLYING TO ARIZONA AND SITTING NEXT TO ONE OF THE COACHES, BUT HE DIDN’T KNOW WHO I WAS, AND HE DIDN’T TALK TO ME. WE PLAYED THE GAME. AND I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO MAKE THAT FIELD GOAL AT THE END, AND WE HAD A GREAT CONVERSATION ON THE WAY BACK. FINALLY, HE KNEW WHO I WAS, AND TEAMMATES RECOGNIZED ME AND KNEW MY NAME. IT WAS GOOD ALL AROUND. AND I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY.>>Greg: KELANI, WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER THAT NIGHT?>>Kelani: THAT GAME, ACTUALLY, WE HAD PT FIELD GOAL, AND NEW GUYS KICKING AND JAKE WAS READY TO GO FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. SO LAMB HAD THE FEELING THAT MAYBE WE SHOULD GO WITH HIM. AND MAYBE WE SHOULD GIVE HIM A CHANCE. AND I REMEMBER HIM SCORING A TOUCHDOWN. AND I LOOK BACK, AND JAKE’S EYES ARE HUNGRY, LET’S GO AND GIVE HIM A SHOT. WE GIVE HIM SHOES, GUYS, AND I DON’T KNOW WHY HE GAVE ME A HARD TIME, BUT WE TROTTED OUT THERE WITH GREENE SHOES, AND EVERYBODY STARTED CALLING HIM JAKE THE MAKE, AND IT’S GOOD TO HAVE HIM BACK.
SO I’M GLAD HE’S A FRESHMANNCjÑñ RIGHT NOW.>> NOW.>>Greg: SO ABOUT THE SHOES, I THINK YOU’RE A SOUTH LAKE GUY, RIGHT? DRAGONS? GREENE IS THE COLOR, RIGHT?>>YEP, GREENE, BLACK AND WHITE.>>Greg: YOU HAVE THE SHOES.>>I HAVE TO CLARIFY. IF I HAD BEEN ISSUED SHOES, I WOULD HAVE WORN THEM. I DIDN’T GET SHOES UNTIL AFTER THAT GAME. SOMETHING HAPPENED. AND THEY DIDN’T GIVE THEM TO ME BEFORE. BUT AFTER THAT GAME, KEPT WEARING THOSE SHOES. SO I DID. I WORE THEM.>>NOW YOU CAN ORDER ANY SHOES THAT YOU WANT ON GAME DAY.>>HE KNOWS HIS NAME, BECAUSE HE HAS A BAG OF FOOTBALLS AND A BAG OF SHOES>>Greg: SO WHERE ARE THE SHOES, THE GREENE ONES NOW?>>THEY ARE IN A CASE ON MY NIGHTSTAND BACK HOME. THAT’S WHERE THEY ARE.>>AN ACTUAL GLASS CASE?>>AN ACTUAL GLASS CASE.>>I WANT THE MEMORIES, AND I HAVE TO KEEP THEM SECURE.>>THAT’S GOOD STUFF. YOU HAD THE UTAH GAME, AND YOU WERE TWO FOR TWO IN THAT GAME, AND THEN IT WAS UCLA. YOU TRIED ONE LONG ONE IN THAT GAME, AND THEN WE SEE YOU AGAIN. WHAT HAPPENED?>>SO THE GAME AGAINST UCLA, IT WAS BLOCKED AND THEN I STRUGGLED WITH BACK PROBLEMS IN HIGH SCHOOL THAT SUBSIDED IN THE COURSE OF MY SENIOR YEAR, LEADING UP TO MY FRESHMAN YEAR, AND I FELT PRETTY GOOD, AND THEN THE FIRST COUPLE OF GAMES WITH MY BACK, AND IT WAS TRIGGERED AGAIN AND THAT LONG FIELD GOAL, IT WAS THE SAME INJURY I HAD WHEN I CAME BACK, IT WAS A STRESS INJURY, THE L5, BUT TAKING THE REST OF THE SEASON OFF AND BEING ABLE TO GET A MEDICAL RED SHIRT, AND THEN THEv TWO YEARS OFv■KB■ MY MISSION REY i THE HEALING PROCESS, AND THEN THE PAIN WITH THE UCLA GAME.>>Greg: WHEN YOU CONNECTED WITH THAT FIELD GOAL, HAD YOU RECEIVED YOUR MISSION CALL TO CHILE AT THAT POINT? NOT QUITE.>>I THINK IT WAS AFTER I GOT MY CALL IN OCTOBER.>>Greg: BUT THE SEASON WAS STILL GOING, AND DO YOU REMEMBER THE DECISION TO SHUT HIM DOWN AND SEE YOU IN A COUPLE OF YEARS?>>Kelani: WE WANTED HIM TO SERVE HIS MISSION, AND HE KNEW AHEAD OF TIME THAT HE WANTED TO SERVE A MISSION, AND HE KNEW HE WAS GOING TO PLAY THAT YEAR, AND WE TALKED ABOUT IT AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR HIM IN HIS TWO-YEAR MISSION, TO PREPARE FOR THAT, AND I’VE BEEN REALLY PLEASED. WE’VE HAD SOME REALLY GOOD KICKERS COME THROUGH SINCE THEN, AND HE DID A REALLY GOOD JOB WITH PD. HE WANTED THE PUNTING JOB, WHICH IS HARD TO DO. AND HE HAS A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH KYLE AND ARE THE OTHER KICKERS AND DANNY AND THE OTHER GUYS, SO HE HAS BECOME A REALLY GOOD LEADER FOR US. BUT WHEN HE CAME HOME FROM HIS MISSION, IT’S CRAZY, LOOK AT HIS BODY. NOT A LOT OF KICKERS LOOK LIKE THAT. SO HE DID AN AMAZING JOB, WORKING REALLY HARD AND SACRIFICING QUITE A BIT. AND FOCUSING ON HIS NUTRITION, AND LOOK HOW SKINNY HE WAS.>>Greg: DID YOU [ UNINTELLIGIBLE ]>> THEY TOLD ME I COULD JUST WEAR –>> A LOT OF CHANGES, AND EVERYBODY KNOWS HIS NAME, BUT HE HAS DONE AN AMAZING JOB. THE WEIGHT ROOM, THE WEIGHT ROOM TO HAVE LOVES LOVES HIM, AND IT’S AMAZING WHEN YOU HAVE A KICKER WHO HAS DONE ALL OF THE WORK LIKE THE GUYS ON THE TEAM AND A GREAT LEADER FOR OUR GROUP>>Greg: WITH ALL OF THIS, RED-SHIRT FRESHMAN. IT’S SO GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK. AND I’M SO GLAD THAT YOU’RE HEALTHY. GOOD JOB, AND APPRECIATE IT. HEY, TRY SMITH’S CLICK LIST, CUSHIEST WITH COUGAR NATION, WE BREAK DOWN COUGAR FOOTBALL EACH WEEK ON AFTER FURTHER REVIEW.>> AS WE GO TO BREAK, THIS WEEK’S TRIVIA QUESTION. BYU HAS ON THE ROSTER, ONE PLAYER FROM THE STATE OF TENNESSEE. WHO IS HE?>>Greg: TRIVIA TIME, BYU HAS ON IT’S 2019 ROSTER, ONE PLAYER FROM THE STATE OF TENNESSEE. WHO IS HE? AND THE ANSWER FOR Y’ALL IS JOE CRITCHLOW FROM FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE. AND WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT JOE CRITCHLOW THAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW?>>I LOVE JOE. AND HE’S ACTUALLY STARTED A COUPLE OF GAMES WITH US, AND DONE A GREAT JOB WITH THAT QUARTERBACK GROUP. AND BRINGING A LOT OF EXPERIENCE AND A LOT OF THE KNOWLEDGE TO THE GROUP. SO I THINK HE’S GOING TO HAVE SUCCESS NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES IN LIFE, BUT RIGHT NOW, WE BENEFIT FROM HAVING HIM AS PART OF THE GROUP, AND HE HAS KNOWLEDGE IN A LOT OF THINGS, SO HE CAN TUTOR A LOT OF SUBJECTS. SO WE’RE UTILIZING HIM AS MUCH AS WE CAN, AND IF NEED ED HE’LL BE ON THE FIELD FOR US>>Greg: JAKE OLDROYD, HE’S A SERIOUS WEAPON FOR YOU. AMOUNTS DEEP, AND WE HAVE NOT SEEN THIS YET. BUT HE COULD BE SOMEBODY IN FOUR YEARS AS PART OF YOUR ARSENAL IN SCORING THE WITH THE BALL>>Kelani: HE SURPRISES US WITH A LOT OF THINGS THAT HE DOES IN PUNTING AND WE KNEW HE WAS A GREAT PLACE KICKISH, BUT HE HAS AN EXTREMELY STRONG LEG AND HE WORKS HARD. SO I THINK WE’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO RELY ON HIM AND HIS LEG QUITE A BIT. BUT I LIKE THE WAY HE WORKS WITH KYLE AND ARE DANNY AND THE WAY THEY WORK AS A GROUP. THEY’RE A TIGHT-KNIT GROUP, AND I THINK THEY WORK PRETTY WELL TOGETHER. EVERYONE KNOWS THEIR ROLE, AND HE’S A BIG PART OF SHARING, NOT JUST THE KICKS THAT HE GETS IN PRACTICE, BUT THE THINGS THAT HE DOES TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE KICK BETTER, SO ITS SUCH A COOL DYNAMIC, AND THEY HAVE A LOT OF LOVE FOR THE SPECIALISTS. I WAS A SNAPPER IN THE DAY TOO, FULLBACK AND SNAPPER, SO I THINK I CAN UNDERSTAND WHERE THEY’RE COMING FROM AND THE CONNECTION THEY HAVE. THE KICKERS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND, AND JAKE HAS BEEN OUR BEST FRIEND SINCE 2016, AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN KEEP THAT GOING FOR FOUR MORE YEARS>>Greg: HOPEFULLY WE CAN ALL KEEP IT GOING ON SATURDAY. GOOD LUCKING THIS WEEKEND. COUGAR PREGAME LIVE, THE COUNTDOWN TO KICK OFF BEGINS ON THE 16th, 3:00 PACIFIC, THE BYU RADIO POST-GAME, BOTH ON BYU-TV AND BYU RADIO, AND REQUESTING FOR NEXT WEEK’S SHOW, GO TO BYU COUGARS.COM. 1. BYU should be confident going into this game. Battles are won and lost at the line of Scrimmage and BYU has the advantage there. Plus Tennessee got pushed around by Georgia freaking State! Not only were they a non P5 team, they were a bad non P5 team that went 2-10 last year. There's no way to sugarcoat that. BYU better be able to take advantage of that on offense. I will give Tennesse credit for scoring 30 points but again, it was against Georgia State. I think our defense is a little better than Georgia State's. How Tennessee is favored in this game, I'm not sure, but I'm really confident in BYU's chances this game, and BYU should especially be too!

  2. When will people understand Utah is designed to take the ball away. They always do that. How is it a mistake by BYU when the defense gets his ankles as he's throwing? It's not a mistake, it's Utah's defense causing the turnover. Sheesh.
