Burpees for Beginners: How to do a Burpee

August 22, 2019

Hi I’m Tom Holland Bowflex Fitness
Advisor. This is Burpees for Beginners. Burpees – the exercise we all love to hate. We love them because they work. We hate them because they are hard but we want to do them. We want to do them right. Lisa’s going
to demonstrate. Here’s how a beginner would do it. She’s going to take her time, she’s gonna
break it down: dropping, kicking the legs out, coming back, and just stepping up. She’s
going to do that slowly just getting used to the motion. Then she’s going to
take it up a notch, adding in a push-up and a plyometric
jump. So here is the full Burpee: dropping, and then really getting some air, putting
in the push-up element, and the plyometric element, and there you have it. Start slowly, start with the beginner and
build up to that. For more work out tips just like this

  1. I'm gonna try these tomorrow. People say there hard, I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Lol I think I'm one of the only ones that read this is a beginner burpee workout. Lol

  2. It may be hard for everyone even for em but you can practice learn all you need to do is watch this video BTW my brother is just doing this burpee and it's so funny watching him but he can practice

  3. Thanks for the video. I don't mean to criticize, but the push up should have the elbows in beside the body, not out. Having the elbows out can do harm to your shoulders. Cheers.

  4. "there you have it" ??? I can't even do a push-up with legs fully extended. I'm pretty sure there is something in between. There are many beginners out there who would see this video and then proceed to NEVER even try a burpee thanks to "there you have it".

  5. YIKES!!!   I'm going to start doing these this year. Well, start truly exercising. Wow, WAS going to start today. May have to wait until March 16 when I should get my Neck Collar off. Probably too soon for something THIS Extreme before a Fusion surgery. Also gonna start some Wall Sits, Squats & Jumping Jacks.  All planned from a cute "Name Workout" a friend posted on Facebook last year. I have some medical issues I'm not sure if I'll be able to do them. I also want to learn and start the Slow movement meditation type exercise. Not Yoga, Can't remember what it is called. If anyone knows, would appreciate the information. God Bless, Peace, Love, Joy and Harmony be with you each and Every day!

  6. Know whats awesome about this. His name is Tom Holland, teaching me how to do Burpees. And a part of Toms workout before and during being Spider-Man involved a lot of burpees. Nah but seriously I struggled getting this down cause I feel awkward trying them with improper form so I really enjoyed the lesson! Here's to a new sub in me for you and hopefully a new routine from you to help me 🙂

  7. In the military, instead of getting on your tippy toes with your hands at the sky after the push up, we would jump up, while reaching for the sky

  8. I may be wrong, but aren't you supposed to press your belly all the way to the floor with a proper burpee?

  9. I was told doing burpees would be beneficial to me but didn't know what it even was. This video was very informative

  10. First off, thank you for keeping this video short and to the point.
Secondly, I did a very close variation of this before. Everything was the same except the jump at the end was replaced with a jumping jack.

  11. 0:23 '…used to the motion…' Awesome!
Trainers do not get this, especially how challenging this 'new motion' is to a beginner. Most dropouts are because of a lack of this understanding, both by the trainer and the participant. I stop to explain to trainer now….. it might be an easy stance, but my brain isn't yet accustomed, it has to get used to the new motion, so don't push.

  12. I was doing these with my niece and holy cow is it a workout. After about 15 i could hardly jump. Ive been so busy i havent been able to exercise so im out of shape but burpees are fun

  13. Origin. The exercise was named in the 1930s for American physiologist Royal H. Burpee, who developed the burpee test. He earned a Ph.D. in applied physiology from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1940 and created the "burpee" exercise as part of his Ph.D. thesis as a quick and simple way to assess fitness.

    Ah yes, the ROYAL BURPEE

  14. I lost alot of weight. But i have still long way to go, and my pants size was 50 and now 46 44 but i am still chuby so i don,t fit them all and my goal is size 42 40 and then i hope my figure is as it was when i was 17… and 26 june i am 22 years old. So i hope is the best day ever and that the scale says that the weight is down were i really want to see it… so wish me lucky

  15. But the greater problem is that I can’t do a push-up :/ I tried many times, my arm aren’t strong enough to carry the weight of my body (or maybe because I’m fat and that’s why I’m exercising). Any tips?

  16. my teacher told us classmate for every single person who is not in alphabetical order, all the class has to do 5 burpies… what a torture.
